Qhuinn is the first to become a Brother without the requisite lineage as per the Old Laws. He's mated to Blaylock and the two of them are main characters in the eleventh book of The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward, Lover At Last, and the novella A Warm Heart in Winter.

Biography[]
Qhuinn was the second son and third child of one of the six Founding Families of the glymera and was born with one blue eye and one green eye. Since heterochromia is considered a "defect" by the glymera, his parents were emotionally and mentally abusive, providing him with little more than a roof over his head; he resorted to selling red smoke to afford clothes.[2] For example, his mother insisted he use the servants' stairs instead of the main ones, he was banned from family events, and the family often made gestures intended to ward off evil whenever they saw him. The servants, following the example of the family, refused to touch his clothes so he had to wash them himself.
Blaylock became his closest friend and the home of his parents, Rocke and Lyric, who didn't think twice of the colour of his eyes, became his refuge. Together, they joined the Black Dagger Brotherhood's Training Program as pretrans where they met John Matthew and the three of them became fast friends. Blay was the first to go through his transition, followed by Qhuinn, and then John Matthew.
After his transition, Qhuinn became quite sexually promiscuous, primarily with women and females. This put somewhat of a strain on his relationship with Blay, who had long had feelings for him. Still hungry for acceptance, Qhuinn told Blay that he wanted a traditional mating with a female of worth and young and the whole white picket fence thing so there was no future for them ever.
Qhuinn killed his cousin Lash in defense of John Matthew, which was the last straw for his family; they promptly informed him via a doggen that he was disowned, to leave the house immediately, and to provide some blood for a ritual to purify the home of his presence.[3] That same night, the family sent an honour guard to corporally punish Qhuinn for bringing shame upon the family. It was only through the intervention of his brother Luchas, who was among the guard, and the arrival of Blay and John that kept them from killing him outright. He still might have died if Blay and John hadn't reached out to Doc Jane for help and she then brought him to the Brotherhood's clinic for treatment.
After interviewing Qhuinn on the incident and his motives, Wrath retroactively named him ahstrux nohstrum to John Matthew in order to avoid imprisonment followed by lifelong servitude to Lash's family.[4] As part of his new duties, Qhuinn moved into the suite next to John's in the mansion.
During the raids led by Lash, Qhuinn's blooded father, mother, and sister were all murdered. Luchas was tortured and suspended, unconscious, in a barrel of the Omega's black essence for a purpose known; he was eventually found and rescued by Qhuinn and admitted that he'd never liked how their father treated Qhuinn, but hadn't had the courage to speak against Lohstrong. This went a long ways towards building their relationship, but it took a setback when Luchas' leg had to be amputated and Qhuinn had to give consent on his behalf. Luchas held Qhuinn responsible for what he saw as a "mutilation."
When Layla went into her needing, she asked him to service her so they could have a child together since they both wanted a family to love and be loved in return, even though they didn't have romantic feelings towards each other. That situation led Blaylock to believe that Qhuinn was in love with Layla.
Personality[]
Qhuinn can be quite earthy and a little wild, especially before he mated Blay. His sense of honour runs deep, which was why he turned himself into the King after killing Lash and didn't hesitate when offered the chance to become ahstrux nohstrum, despite the severe requirements of the position. Anything dealing with emotion or could possibly expose a vulnerability tends to make Qhuinn run for the hills, which was partly why it took so long for him to acknowledge how he felt about Blay.
Physical Description[]
Qhuinn has multiple piercings in his ears, his eyebrow, centre of his lower lip, nipples, and other areas, including a Prince Albert.[5] He has spiky black hair, golden skin, wears New Rock boots[4] and a Suunto watch.[6]
There's a purple drop outlined in black tattooed under his left eye to signify his former status as ahstrux nohstrum. That same night he became ahstrux nohstrum, Vishous tattooed the date August 18, 2008 in the Old Language on the nape of his neck with a flourish running all around it; the numbers are spelled out.[7]

Qhuinn has always had some feelings for his best friend Blay, but because of his desire to try and be as 'normal' as possible by glymera standards, he denied these feelings, which hurt Blay. By the time Qhuinn finally came around, Blay was already in a relationship with Saxton.
John[]
Ever since their early days in the training program, they've been best friends.
Layla[]
Despite the fact they are more friends than lovers, Qhuinn still takes admirable care of Layla during her pregnancy.
Luchas[]
His middle sibling was part of the honour guard that attacked Qhuinn the night he killed Lash; if he hadn't stopped the other three, they would have killed Qhuinn even though an honour guard isn't meant to kill, only hurt.
Lyric[]
He's always loved his mother-in-law, first for how she never judged him for his eyes, then because she loved him like her own son. He can't deny her anything.
Saxton[]
As long as Saxton wasn't involved with Blaylock, Qhuinn tends to get along well with his cousin.
